Putting people before party politics Learn more

Syria may seem a long way from Kenilworth, but there hasn’t been an international crisis on this scale for a long time. So here is the LibDem position which I support:
a) Use of chemical weapons is a clear red line.
b) We can’t stand by and ignore the horrific scenes from Syria. c) We condemn the Russian Government for vetoing a full UN investigation into chemical weapons use in Syria.
d) The Syrian Government must allow full and unfettered access for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical
Weapons.
As for the UK’s possible response:
1) Britain is an outward-facing nation, so we should be prepared to contribute to upholding international law.
2) Theresa May’s Government should share with Parliament the evidence it has of the Syrian Government’s involvement, and that of their Russian backers, in last weekend’s attack.
3) Theresa May’s Government must present the objectives of any proposed action to Parliament.
4) A unilateral response by any country, outside of a wider strategy, without allies is not the way forward.
5) There must be a debate and vote in the House of Commons before any military action.
